Walk History
When Bob Murray conceived of the Walk 24 years ago, he was a grant writer at the Housing Assistance Corporation, trying to help the organization match a state housing grant. That first year, $28,000 was raised. Since then, the Housing with Love Walk has raised more than $4.5 million to help local agencies provide housing and prevent homelessness on Cape Cod. These agencies offer emergency shelter, outreach and mentoring. They build housing and conduct energy upgrades that help clients stay warm and save money. They provide classes in financial literacy, budgeting and credit repair as well as workshops for first-time home buyers.
In 2012, the Walk was renamed the Bob Murray Housing with Love Walk in honor of its founder. Bob was a passionate and effective housing advocate who walked every year for 20 years and his legacy continues to be an inspiration to those who knew him.
